About Us

Paul:

Paul Nuzzo has been dancing since 1997 when he was in college in Springfield, MA.  After 2 months of lessons, he was hired by the Cultural Dance Society of New England where he taught East Coast Swing and Salsa.  It was here that he was introduced to West Coast Swing - he was hooked.  Paul graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Western New England College in 2000.  While in college, he worked for NBC as a production assistant, the NY Mets in the video production department, and in the media relations department for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.  He was also on the bowling team (captain Jr and Sr year). They went to the ACUI National Championship - finishing 5th twice and 3rd once.  In his sophomore year, he ranked 1st in the Northeast region of the country as a college bowler through the ACUI National Qualifier.  Paul has bowled 3 perfect 300 games in his career.  He gave up a sponsor on the Professional Bowling Association tour in order to pursue his dance career.

After college, Paul came back to his home town of Syracuse, NY where he worked for Walt Medicis Dance Studios teaching American Social Ballroom, Swing, and Latin dances.  In the fall of 2004 he decided to focus his dance career on West Coast Swing and created Paul Nuzzo Dance Productions.  He has been teaching West Coast Swing in group and private lessons in Syracuse ever since.  Paul also has done numerous choreographed routines for performances and weddings, including team demonstrations.  He also emcees and organizes an event every year at the NY State Fair in Syracuse, NY titled "Ballroom and Beyond" that celebrates the wonderful dancing talents in the community.  He is highly regarded for his teaching skills and his ability to teach students at any level.

Paul's very first competition was the Boston Tea Party* in 2003 where he finished first alternate in the Newcomer division.  His next competition was Boston Tea Party* the following year where he made finals and advanced to the Novice division. Paul started seriously competing in 2005 at National competitions such as, Boston Tea Party*, Liberty Swing*, Swing Niagara*, Swing Fling*, Summer Hummer*, and Swingin' New England*.  After 6 competitions Paul worked his way to the intermediate division by obtaining official WSDC points.  This included a 1st place win at the Boston Tea Party* in 2006 and a 2nd place win at Swing Fling* 2006.

At only his 4th competition in the intermediate division, Paul took first place at the Boston Tea Party* 2007.

In addition, Paul has many students who have competed and placed in National West Coast Swing competitions.

Paul has been studying with professional West Coast Swing instructors such as Robert Royston, John Lindo, and Robert Cordoba.

Marta:

Marta started as a gymnast at the age of 5.  Before her gym closed at the age of 16, she went to USGF Regionals with a 9th place All-Around finish, as well as, 3 trips to the USAIGC Nationals with a 1st place finish on the floor exercise and 25th All-Around place out of 255 competitors in her division in 1995.

At the age of 16 she fell in love with the dancesport ballroom dancing competitions on TV and knew she'd be competing in partner dancing the rest of her life. It wasn't until she was in college that she was introduced to Ballroom and Latin dancing through the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Ballroom Dancing Club. She began competing in ballroom at the bronze level when she was introduced to West Coast Swing. It was love at first dance! She took as many lessons with Lyoni Fisher in Albany, NY as she could and eventually started teaching dance herself. In her sophomore year at RPI, she became the President of the Ballroom Dance Club, landed a role in the campus production of 'A Chrous Line', as well as organizing RPI's annual Dancesport competition. Her first National competition in WCS was at The Boston Tea Party* in 2002 where she made it to Finals. Once she experienced what a West Coast Swing dance weekend was all about - she was hooked!

In the Spring of 2002, Marta graduated from RPI with a Chemistry degree and moved to Buffalo, NY to begin medical school at the University at Buffalo.

The next year she made it to the CASH Bash* in Ohio and won the Intermediate division in WCS. When the Swing Niagara* competition debuted in Buffalo, NY she was beyond excited to have a competition in her backyard! She placed 1st in the Intermediate division at Swing Niagara* in 2004. That same year, Marta was able to make it to a few national events and placed 2nd at Swing Fling* in Advanced WCS.

While in medical school, she had little time to travel to competitions and instead chose to teach lessons to her classmates in swing and salsa which were well received.

In 2006, Marta found she had some time to make it to Swing Niagara* and Swingin' New England* on her days off. She made it to Finals at each event in the Advanced division.
